Here’s a loaded topic for us to talk about today! 😉
How to choose the right broker/brokerage for YOU.
If you are a broker reading this, you might not like or agree with everything I say about this topic and that’s okay.
But, remember, I’ve been a broker, started my own brokerage, and ran it for years, so I understand the unique and very difficult position brokers are in.
To the brokers out there who are doing things right–I commend you. It’s the hardest job in real estate.
The reason I’m no longer a broker, though, is because I’m an agent’s agent.
Meaning, what I care most about and the sole reason Agent Grad School exists is making AGENTS successful–not teams, not brokerages–AGENTS.
And, there are some inherit conflicts of interest between making agents successful and making a brokerage successful. Even though at first glance it seems like one would equal the other, that’s not always the case.
To that end, I say to all the agents out there…
What do I mean by that?
Unlike everything else you do in your business that’s all about your clients and answering why someone should choose YOU, when it comes to you choosing a broker, you’ve got to be asking, why should you choose THEM?
You’ve got to ask yourself the question, what’s the reason they are the best option, among all the options available.
It’s fun to turn the tables and be the one asking that question, isn’t it? I think it also helps you see how important that question is to answer as a real estate business owner–whether you are a broker or an agent.
And, here’s the thing: your answer may change as your business evolves and grows and as the real estate industry changes too.
Depending on whether you are a new agent, how many houses you are selling, your personal goals, your strengths and weaknesses, and your needs as your business changes, you may have to change brokerages a few times throughout your career.
The brokerage you affiliate with is a decision you should be remaking again and again every few years as your business grows (and if your business isn’t growing, we need to talk).
So how do you know which brokerage is right for you along the way?
How do you know when it’s time to make a change?
On today’s free training episode of Confessions of A Top Producing Real Estate Agent, I’m walking you through how to know which brokerage is right for you as you move along in your career.
For example, if you are a brand new agent you need one set of needs fulfilled by your broker–things like training and leads.
When you are starting to see some success, but not exactly where you want to be–you have another set of needs your broker needs to support–things like systems and structure and proven growth strategies.
When you are a top agent, you need help with streamlining your process, a marketing budget and time saving resources like people and technology.
To know whether you are picking the right place to launch your career or the right place to grow your real estate business even more, listen in to today’s episode:
Choosing the brokerage you are part of is one of the most important decisions you’ll make throughout your real estate career.
As your business grows, your needs will change and the brokerage that’s right for you will probably change too, and that’s normal!
Your job is to know what you need as your career evolves and make sure you are getting it from your brokerage. If you aren’t, it might be time to move on.
Last, but not least, you can not make this decision by looking around at what everyone else is doing or what your agent-friends are doing.
You’ve got to put your blinders on and do what’s best for you, your business and your goals, whatever those are (and they likely aren’t exactly the same as your office BFFs).
So, this is why I say this has got to be the most selfish decision you make as a real estate agent. You’ve got to have the strength to make the best decision for YOU and where you are headed, no matter what anyone else says.
Today’s episode will help you do just that.
To your success,
P.S. Know that this choice doesn’t have to come from a negative place. You can choose one brokerage over another simply because it’s the right fit for your needs at the time, not because something is “wrong” or “bad” with where you are or with the other options available. Remember that along the way. You can be kind while also getting what YOU need at the same time. ❤️

Hi, I'm Jennifer! I'm a real estate agent, founder of Agent Grad School and host of the podcast Confessions of A Top Producing Real Estate Agent. I couldn't sell a house the first TWO years I was a real estate. After trying everything we've all heard, I decided to look outside the real estate industry for marketing know-how, applied what I learned and became one of the top 100 agents in the US. Now I teach other real estate agents everything I did.
